GREEN STRATEGY

Managing the environmental impact of the Oxfam Trailwalker event is very important to Oxfam Canada. We will be implementing the following strategy:

  • Our primary focus is the route where the participants will be walking. We have over 70 Ganaraska Hiking Trail volunteers who are assigned to “sweep” the trail to ensure the trail is clean, and our impact is minimized (Ganaraska Hiking Trail Organization is an event partner and are committed to stewarding and sustaining the Ganaraska Trail.)
  • We are encouraging car pooling by participants and volunteers to get to and from the event.
  • All printed material regarding the event will be on recycled paper.
  • Event waste and recycling bins will be located at each checkpoint.
  • Staging, tenting will be constructed from sustainable materials wherever possible…and nearly all materials will be reused or recycled.
  • Identify like-minded suppliers/partners to implement innovative environmental initiatives at our event.
  • We will use eco-friendly cutlery, plates, cups, napkins etc.
  • We will use water trucks and hoses to refill water bottles, and no bottled water will be served at checkpoint stations.
  • We will utilize non-toxic biodegradable products.
  • We will utilize recycled toilet paper in port-o-lets.
  • We will utilize LED lighting, where possible
  • We will limited the use of gas and fume emitting motors, where possible.
  • We will share our green strategy with our participants, volunteers and suppliers to fight climate change.
